Our Story
WE Made
WE Made provides jobs and job training to people living with disabilities and other barriers to employment in the Birmingham Metro area. We envision a world in which all people can reach their highest vocational potential.
Our workforce development program engages participants in hands-on experience in the food service and retail industries. In addition, we provide a curriculum around job readiness to ensure their success as an employee. Upon program completion, graduates work with our program staff to place them into jobs throughout the community.
We are proud to work with partners, retailers, and community members to make an impact on our community while providing products that make life sweeter and more convenient!
Our Parent Organization, WE Inc.
WE Made is a program of the nonprofit, Workshops Empowerment Inc. (WE Inc.), based in Birmingham, AL.
WE Inc. was founded in 1900 when a group of Birmingham citizens established a workshop for the rehabilitation of people with disabilities, especially those with vision impairments. Initially, our clients created products for sale, including brooms and mops. In each of the World Wars, we flourished with government contracts, and from the 1950s through the 1970s, Workshops, Inc. established woodworking, upholstery, and general craftwork capabilities. At one point, Workshops, Inc. even had a band – The Alley Cats – who played for President Nixon!
Today, WE Inc. continues that legacy and provides much more. Through training and workforce development, WE Inc. helps individuals be their best selves. Through handwork and fulfillment, WE Inc. provides businesses outsourcing solutions vital to their success while also providing jobs to people with employment barriers.
